Two Charged for Anzac Memorial Damage in Sydney

Two men have been charged following the alleged malicious damage of an Anzac Memorial in the Sydney CBD earlier this week.

About 12.20pm on Thursday (4 September 2025), two men were seen to allegedly spray a substance onto the walls and steps of the Anzac Memorial located in Hyde Park, Elizabeth Street, Sydney.

One man was allegedly seen to spray the substance onto the eastern walls and northern steps of the Memorial.

The other man was seen to allegedly spray a substance onto the southern steps of the Memorial.

Shortly after, two men were seen to leave the Anzac Memorial and walk together in a northern direction through Hyde Park.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command commenced an investigation into the incident and following extensive inquiries, about 5.45pm yesterday (Friday 5 September 2025), two men attended Auburn Police Station, where they were arrested.

The pair, both aged 61, have both been charged with wilfully damage or deface any protected place and destroy or damage property more than $2,000 and less than or equal to $5,000.

Both men were refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 6 September 2025).
