Two men have been charged following a home invasion and pursuit in Sydney's Inner West overnight.
Just after 2am today (Saturday 17 January 2026), police were called to a home on Crystal Street, Petersham, following reports of a home invasion.
Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command attended and were told by the resident two men had entered the home and restrained an occupant before searching the premises and leaving through neighbouring yards.
The occupant at the time – a 31-year-old man – was not injured.
Police began to establish a perimeter and a white van allegedly struck an officer – a male sergeant – at the intersection of Crystal and Robert Streets before driving away from the scene.
The officer was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Scans revealed he did not suffer any serious injurues and remains in a stable condition.
A short time later, police located the white van on Trafalgar Street, Petersham.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated and additional resources from Burwood Police Area Command, the Dog Unit and PolAir were called to assist.
The pursuit continued through local streets before the vehicle stopped in Henley Park on Mitchell Street, Croydon Park.
The driver, a 39-year-old man was arrested after a short foot pursuit. Following a search of the area with the assistance of the Dog Unit, the passenger – a 41-year-old man – was arrested after he was found hiding under a vehicle.
The two men were taken to Burwood Police Station where they were both charged with
- Aggravated enter dwelling with intent to deprive liberty
- Use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention
- Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously
- Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous
- Fail to stop and assist after impact cause injury, and
- Attempted Aggravated dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – escaping pursuit.
The men were both refused bail to appear at Bail Division – Court 7 tomorrow (Sunday 18 January 2026).
