Two charged over aggravated break and enter, NSW

Police have charged two men following an aggravated break and enter at a business in Port Kembla early this morning, NSW Police say.

About 4.15am today, two men allegedly forced entry to a smash repair business on Shellharbour Road.

Following reports of an alarm activation, officers from Lake Illawarra Local Area Command attended and located two men – aged 23 and 28 – within the building.

As the men were being arrested, the 28-year-old man allegedly resisted police and pushed a male senior constable, causing him to fall backwards.

The officer sustained abrasions to his arms and hands.

The men were taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where the younger man was charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence- in company.

The older man was taken to Shellharbour Hospital under police guard; however, later released and charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence- in company, assault officer in execution of duty, and resist officer in execution of duty.

They were both refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court tomorrow.
