Two charged, stolen ADF medals recovered in Wollongong

Police have charged two men after medals were stolen during a break-in at Wollongong this year, NSW Police say.

About 2am on Friday 13 January 2017, a home in Balgownie was broken into and several items were stolen, including Australian Defence Force medals.

Officers from Wollongong Local Area Command were notified on Saturday 14 January 2017 and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, just before 9am today, detectives executed a search warrant at a home on Duncan Street, Balgownie.

During the search, police located and seized property including the medals, allegedly stolen during the break-in.

A cross bow and cannabis was also found at the property.

Two men – aged 39 and 46 – were arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station.

The younger man was charged with possess prohibited drug, and possess or use a prohibited weapon without permission.

The older man was charged with break and enter house.

They were both granted conditional bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 28 March 2017.
