Two charged; third arrested after kidnapping investigation: Strike Force Nicotiana

Detectives have charged two men and arrested a third, following an investigation into the kidnapping of a man from Sydney's north last year.

About 12.40pm on Saturday 24 October 2020, officers from Ryde Police Area Command attended a unit block on Morrison Road at Ryde, following reports a man had been violently abducted from the underground carpark.

A crime scene was established and following initial inquiries, the matter was referred to detectives from the State Crime Command's Robbery and Serious Crime Squad, who took carriage of the investigation under Strike Force Nicotiana.

During the investigation, officers from Bankstown Police Area Command responded to reports an injured man had been found near the intersection of Henry Lawson Drive and Maclaurin Avenue, East Hills, on Tuesday 27 October 2020.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attended before the man was taken to Bankstown Hospital for treatment to minor injuries.

The man was identified as the then 20-year-old, who was abducted three days prior.

Following extensive investigations and three public appeals for information, Strike Force Nicotiana detectives arrested a 33-year-old man at a home at South Granville about 3pm on Monday (19 April 2021).

He was taken to Granville Police Station and charged with take/detain in company with intent to ransom occasion actual bodily harm and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday (20 April 2021), where he was formally refused bail to reappear at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday 9 June 2021.

As part of ongoing inquiries, officers executed two search warrants at homes at Wentworth Point and Guildford from 6am today (Thursday 22 April 2021).

During the searches, police seized a number of items relevant to the investigation.

A 40-year-old man arrested at Guildford and taken to Granville Police Station, where he was charged with take/detain in company with intent to ransom occasion actual bodily harm and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Tuesday 22 April 2021).

Just after 2.15pm this afternoon, a 32-year-old man was arrested at Homebush and taken to Granville Police Station, where charges are expected to be laid.

Investigations by the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad are continuing.
