Two in court over Illawarra robberies, NSW

Two men are due in court today charged over the alleged armed robberies of bottle shops in the Illawarra area, NSW Police say.

Police from Lake Illawarra Local Area Command have been investigating two incidents in the past week.

The first occurred just before 8.30pm on Friday (11 August 2017), when a man allegedly threatened a staff member with a knife and stole cash from a liquor store on Cowper Street, Warrawong.

Shortly before 3.30pm Sunday (13 August 2017), two men allegedly stole cash and alcohol after threatening an attendant with a knife at a liquor store in Tannery Street, Unanderra.

Following inquiries, two men were arrested by Lake Illawarra Police in Berkeley this morning.

Several items have been seized by police for forensic examination including a bottle of tequila.

A 39-year-old man has been charged with two counts of robbery armed with an offensive weapon, while a 24-year-old man has been charged with one count of robbery armed with an offensive weapon.

Both men have been refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court today.
