Two in custody following Launceston evade, TAS

Two people are in custody following an evade incident in Launceston this morning, Tasmania Police say.

Police attempted to intercept a light Mitsubishi light truck in Lindsay Street, Invermay as a result of a traffic offence about 8am this morning today.

An attempt was made to intercept the vehicle which refused to pull over and in attempt to avoid being intercepted, collided with an unmarked police vehicle.

A short time later, the offending vehicle collided with another truck in Olive Street, Newstead and became immobilised.

The driver of the offending vehicle then ran from the scene but was later identified, located and arrested in grounds of the Launceston Preparatory School in Olive Street Invermay.

The passenger in the vehicle was also taken into custody.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact Launceston Police or Crime Stoppers.
