Two injured following pursuit in Lake Illawarra

Police are investigating following a pursuit involving an alleged stolen vehicle in the Illawarra region, NSW Police say.

Just before 2pm today, police were called to Corona Avenue, Lake Illawarra following reports a stolen Hyundai I30 had been located.

Officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol attended the location and attempted to stop the vehicle on Corona Avenue, before a pursuit was initiated.

Police will allege during the pursuit, the vehicle failed to stop and as a result collided with an Audi Q5.

NSW Ambulance Paramedics treated a male passenger of the Hyundai at the scene before taking him to Wollongong Hospital with a broken jaw.

The male driver of the Hyundai was uninjured during the incident. He was taken to Shellharbour Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.

The driver of the Audi Q5, a woman believed to be in her 60’s, was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics for minor leg injuries and shock.

Officers attached to Lake Illawarra Local Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.

Following investigations, the driver of the Hyundai was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he is currently assisting police with their inquiries.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
