Two injured, one dead in crash, NSW

A report will be prepared for the Coroner after a woman died and two men injured in a crash near Newcastle today, NSW Police say.

Just before 11.30am today, emergency services were called to the corner of Industrial Drive and Tourle Street, Mayfield, about 6km from Newcastle, after reports a Holden Astra and a Ford Territory collided.

The driver of the Holden Astra, a 66-year-old man was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition. His passenger, a woman believed to be aged in her 60’s, died at the scene.

The driver of the Ford Territory, a 31-year-old man, was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition, where he will undergo mandatory blood and urine testing.

Officers attached to Newcastle Local Area Command established a crime scene.

Crash Investigation Unit officers have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
