Two men charged over the theft of high-performance cars, NSW

Two men have been charged over their alleged roles in a Sydney-based high-performance vehicle theft and supply syndicate, NSW Police say.

Detectives from the Property Crime Squad’s Motor Unit established Strike Force Wolf in January this year to investigate the coordinated theft of high-performance cars in the Sydney Metropolitan area.

Their investigation focused on alleged aggravated break and enters across Sydney and on the Central Coast, where at least 11 high-performance cars, five trail bikes, and other property were stolen.

The total value of vehicles allegedly stolen during the break-ins is more than $680,000.

Investigators believe that the stolen vehicles were then on-sold and used in the commission of a number of other serious offences, of which the investigations are ongoing.

Six vehicles have since been recovered by police and examined by specialist forensic officers.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force investigators, with the assistance of specialist officers from the Tactical Operations Unit, executed two search warrants at homes at Greystanes and Plumpton about 9am yesterday.

During the search warrants, police seized car keys, a laptop, electronic storage devices, mobile phones, documentation, jewellery, and clothing.

Two men – aged 20 and 21 – were also arrested at the properties.

The 21-year-old Greystanes man was taken to Merrylands Police Station and charged with four counts of dispose motor vehicle, where theft is serious indictable offence; and knowingly deal in the proceeds of crime.

He was refused bail and appeared at Fairfield Local Court yesterday, where he was formally refused bail to appear at the same court on Wednesday 13 September 2017.

A 20-year-old Plumpton man was taken to Mt Druitt Police Station and charged with 14 counts of aggravated break and enter, 11 counts of steal motor vehicle, and knowingly deal in the proceeds of crime.

He was refused bail to appear at Mt Druitt Local Court later today.

Investigations under Strike Force Wolf are continuing and further arrests are expected.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to the theft of high-performance vehicles to call Crime Stoppers.
