Two men to face court over destructive fire in Monaro

Two men will appear in court following investigations into a fire that destroyed thousands of hectares of property, homes and livestock in the states south-east earlier this year, NSW Police say.

The fire started on a property in Carwoola on Friday 17 February 2017 and spread to surrounding properties where it destroyed more than 3000 ha of land, eight homes, sheds, cattle, and 25 vehicles.

A Strike Force was established by officers from Monaro Local Area Command.

As a result of investigations, two men aged 20 and 39, have today been issued with Court Attendance Notices for failing to comply with Minister’s direction of a total fire ban period, and cause/set fire to the property of another person.

The men will appear in Queanbeyan Local Court on Monday 21 August 2017.
