Two teens charged with theft, fraud and robbery in Newcastle

Two teenagers have been charged by detectives investigating fraud, theft and break and enter offences in the Hunter region, NSW Police say.

Officers from the Newcastle City and Lake Macquarie Target Action Groups (TAG) have been investigating multiple offences including fraud, break and enter, motor vehicle theft, and steal from motor vehicles that have been committed during the past two weeks.

Yesterday (Tuesday 4 September 2018) police executed search warrants at homes on Douglas Street at Wallsend, and Cobby Street at Shortland, and seized items alleged to be the proceeds of the break and enters, as well as two cars, clothing, car keys and cannabis.

A 19-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy were arrested and taken to Newcastle City Police Station.

The man was charged with 24 offences;

  • Dishonestly obtain property by deception (x10)
  • Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen
  • Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period (x4)
  • Drive conveyance taken without consent of owner (x4)
  • Be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner (x2)
  • Break and enter house (x3)

He was refused bail at Newcastle Local Court yesterday (Tuesday 4 September 2018), and will reappear at the same court today (Wednesday 5 September 2018).

The 14-year-old boy was charged with nine offences including;

  • Break and enter house
  • Be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner
  • Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner (x2)
  • Be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner
  • Aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence (x2)
  • Dishonestly obtain property by deception (x2)

The juvenile was granted conditional bail to appear at a children’s court on Monday 10 September 2018.
