Dear Colleagues,

I write to share an administrative change I am making in response to evolving and growing needs at UConn Health as it launches the UConn Health Community Network, a first-of-its-kind partnership designed to strengthen and sustain community hospitals across the state, which began this week with the formal inclusion of Waterbury Hospital in the new system.

For nearly three years, Lakeesha Brown has very effectively served as Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer for both UConn and UConn Health. At the same time, with the recent and future demands on our Human Resources function at UConn Health growing exponentially, Dr. Agwunobi and I agreed that having Lakeesha focus her full attention on UConn Health, rather than the entire institution, is critical at this time. She previously served in this role beginning in September 2021, before it was later broadened to cover the entirety of the university.

Effective this week, Lakeesha will resume her role as Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at UConn Health (as well as the new network) and Renee Boggis will be appointed interim Vice President for Human Resources for the Storrs and regional campuses.

Renee has been at UConn for her entire career, beginning in 1997, and joined HR in 1999. Since that time, she has served in numerous HR leadership roles. In November 2024, Lakeesha finalized a reorganization that brought the HR and Labor Relations teams back together as a single unit and appointed Renee to lead them as Associate Vice President.

Under the leadership of Lakeesha and Renee, we have made great strides in the area of HR in recent years, and maintaining that momentum is a key priority going forward.

I want to thank Lakeesha for her continued outstanding service to the university and UConn Health during this time of vital strategic growth, and also thank Renee for her willingness to step into this role on an interim basis for the Storrs and regional campuses.

Sincerely,

Radenka Maric

UConn President
