The meeting highlighted key achievements and ongoing initiatives under De León's leadership, including policies focused on violence prevention, citizen security, and democratic governance.
The Ambassador praised the Vice Minister's efforts to addressing extortion and gang activity, improving prison oversight, and promoting social programs to prevent youth recruitment into criminal networks.
The Ambassador also acknowledged Vice Minister De León's international advocacy, including her work in the the Central America and Dominican Republic Roadmap to Prevent Illicit Trafficking and Proliferation of Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives, adopted in February 2025 by seven countries.
The roadmap outlines a 10-year strategy (2025-2035) based on regulatory strengthening, violence prevention, lifecycle management of weapons, and criminal prosecution.
The UK Embassy expressed interest in exploring areas of collaboration and support for Guatemala's security initiatives, reaffirming its commitment to democratic, inclusive, and transparent governance.
