A 39-year-old Ulverstone woman has been charged with high range drink driving and driving under the influence of alcohol after being intercepted by police driving while five times over the alcohol limit.
Around 12.45pm yesterday police observed a small silver hatchback bring driven erratically between Latrobe and Ulverstone.
Police intercepted the vehicle on Main Street in Ulverstone and transported the female driver to Ulverstone Police Station for a breath analysis. The woman retuned a blood alcohol reading of 0.268, more than five times the legal limit.
The woman has been disqualified from driving for twelve months and will appear before the court at a later date.
Police would like to speak to anyone who saw the small silver hatchback traveling between Latrobe and Ulverstone between 12.15-12.45pm yesterday. Information can be provided to Sergeant Nick Patten on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000.
"Police would like to remind motorists that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs puts themselves and others in danger of serious injury and death," said Sergeant Nick Patten.
"I urge all motorists to be safe on the roads and never combine alcohol and driving.
"In the lead up to the festive season police will be conducting more random alcohol and drug testing sites across the state to remove dangerous drivers from the roads."
