The Manningham Local Dementia Alliance Group (MLDAG) is looking for new members. We want to encourage those living with dementia and their care partners to nominate themselves, get involved and make sure their views and needs are heard and understood. Nominations from residents, community organisations, sporting clubs, local businesses, service clubs, faith groups and other bodies interested in getting involved are welcomed.
Manningham Mayor Cr Andrew Conlon said when a loved one is diagnosed with dementia, it can be a start of a complex and life changing period of time.
"Our aim is to help people manage the condition by creating an inclusive community, where everyone feels included and engaged," he said.
In 2015, the group was established to strengthen the voice of people living with dementia in our community. This year we received official recognition as a "working towards dementia-friendly organisation" status from Dementia Australia.
"This is a significant acknowledgement of our commitment to ongoing staff awareness and education to create advocacy in the area," Cr Conlon said.
Make a difference
The MLDAG plays a significant role advising and supporting Council in delivering actions of the Dementia Friendly City Local Dementia Alliance Group Action Plan 2020-2022. It also provides support for people living with dementia and their care partners.
The group is made up of those with a lived experience of dementia, organisations and groups that support people in Manningham living with dementia.
We want to ensure the voices of people living with dementia and the organisations supporting them, are actively involved in and contributing to the MLDAG. The work of the MLDAG will play a key role to help guide Council in delivering actions and initiatives that help foster positive change for residents living with dementia.
If you are a carer or person living with dementia and are interested in helping us create a community where the views and needs of people with dementia are heard and understood, then consider submitting your nomination today.
The MLDAG will meet bi-monthly on the second last Wednesday of the month (six meetings per year).
