Union Theatre Shuts for Essential Comfort Upgrades

Bass Coast Shire Council advises that The Union Theatre, Wonthaggi, will be temporarily closed from Monday, 20 July to Thursday, 31 July while essential heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) upgrades are undertaken.

The HVAC upgrade began in February 2026 and involves replacing ageing heating and cooling infrastructure, installing new equipment and ductwork, and commissioning a more reliable system to improve comfort for theatre users.

The works are part of Council's ongoing commitment to improving visitor comfort and ensuring the theatre continues to provide a high-quality experience for audiences, performers and the wider community.

Once complete, patrons can look forward to significantly improved temperature control throughout the venue, creating a more comfortable environment year-round for cinema screenings, live performances and community events.

While we appreciate this short closure may cause some inconvenience, these essential upgrades are an investment in the future of The Union Theatre and the experience of everyone who walks through its doors.

We're excited to welcome audiences back to a theatre that is more comfortable in every season, making it an even better place to enjoy events. We thank our community for their understanding and patience while these important works are completed.

During the closure there will be no cinema screenings at The Union Theatre. A small number of scheduled events will be rescheduled or relocated to alternative venues where possible.
