Unit fire - Blacktown, NSW

Four people have been taken to hospital suffering the effects of smoke inhalation, following a unit fire at Blacktown this morning, NSW Police say.

About 7.35am tomorrow, emergency services were called to a residential block on Bruce Street, to find a unit well-alight.

Fire & Rescue NSW officers attended to the blaze, which has now been extinguished.

Eight people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation; four of those were taken to Blacktown Hospital. No other reports of injury have been received.

Police have been told a baby was thrown from a second-level unit window and caught unharmed.

The unit has been completely gutted.

Officers from Blacktown Local Area Command are at the scene and will investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire. Initial inquiries have led police to believe the fire is not suspicious.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
