Unit fire investigation in Innisfail, QLD

Police are investigating the cause of a unit fire that occurred at a building in Innisfail last night, Queensland Police say.

Around 9pm, police were called to an address on Edith Street after smoke and flames were seen coming from inside an upstairs unit.

Initial inquiries suggest the fire started on the second floor and spread through causing it to be engulfed and completely destroyed.

No one was inside the unit during the fire.

At this stage, the fire is being treated as suspicious with a crime scene established while police work to determine the cause.

A number of businesses located on the ground floor of the building also sustained some damage as a result of the fire.

Investigations are continuing.
