Unlawful use of motor vehicle in Nerang, QLD

Police are investigating an incident in which a 21-year-old woman had her vehicle stolen and was subsequently struck by the vehicle in Nerang this afternoon., Queensland Police say>

Initial investigations indicate that around 4pm, a man has stolen a red ford Falcon from the car park of a shopping mall located on the corner of New Street and Cayuga Street.

The 21-year-old woman noticed her vehicle being driven towards the exit of the car park and has ran to the vehicle, opening the passenger’s side door.

The man continued to drive the vehicle while the 21-year-old was partially inside, dragging her along for a short time. The man then slammed on the brakes, causing the woman to fall from the vehicle.

The vehicle has driven over the woman’s leg and collided with another vehicle on New Street before driving off at speed towards Gilston Road.

The vehicle was found abandoned in Balfour Crescent in Highland Park around 4.20pm.

The 21-year-old woman sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries to her leg and was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.
