Police have charged a 29-year-old man following an incident involving a stolen vehicle at Mt Kynoch yesterday, June 1.
At approximately 2.30pm police were called to Goombungee Road after receiving reports initially of a two-vehicle traffic crash.
It is alleged when officers arrived at the scene, they observed a man behaving suspiciously near a 2012 red Holden Barina which was parked on the side of the road.
The man ran from this vehicle back to a stolen 2015 Mercedes Benz A250 and attempted to drive off. While he attempted to flee two police vehicles were damaged before he was taken into custody.
The 2015 Mercedes Benz A250, was stolen from a Kearney's Spring address on May 30.
Investigations reveal that there was no traffic crash, and the man had allegedly forced entry to the parked 2012 red Holden Barina by smashing the rear passenger side window before stealing several items including a wallet and clothing.
The 29-year-old Newtown man has been charged with seven offences including one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, damaging a police car, obstruct police, possession of a knife, unlicensed driving, using stolen number plates and enter dwelling to commit.
He is due to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court today.
