UPDATE – Man and woman charged over police incident, Gold Coast

A man and a woman have been charged in relation to a police incident at a shopping centre at Coomera late yesterday afternoon, Queensland Police say.

During the incident around 4.50pm it is alleged police attempted to intercept a suspected stolen vehicle in a shopping centre when it was deliberately driven towards two police vehicles.

During the course of the incident, shots were allegedly fired by police.

Two police vehicles were damaged in the process.

No members of the public or police were injured during the incident.

The man involved in the incident sustained an eye injury and was transported to hospital for treatment.

A 22-year-old man from Coomera has been charged with one count of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, three counts of wilful damage, two counts of unlicensed driving, two counts of fraud and one count each of fail to stop, stealing and fail to appear. He is due to face Southport Magistrates Court today.

A 22-year-old woman from Coomera has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle. She is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on March 26, 2018.

The Ethical Standards Command continue to investigate the incident.
