UPDATE: Man arrested following investigation after enlisted Navy serviceman assaulted in Glenfield

A man has been arrested and is assisting with inquiries following investigations after a Navy serviceman was allegedly assaulted in Glenfield yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 2.45pm yesterday, a 24-year-old enlisted Navy serviceman was travelling home on a train from the Anzac Day Memorial Service in the city.

While on the train the man noticed a number of men consuming alcohol and harassing the other commuters.

The serviceman approached the group and asked that they stop drinking and curb their behaviour.

One of the men in the group allegedly took offence and punched the officer in the face as he was leaving the train that had stopped at Glenfield Railway Station.

The officer suffered a bloody nose but did not require any treatment.

The incident was reported to police at Macquarie Fields and an investigation commenced.

About 4.30pm today, a 27-year-old man attended Macquarie Fields Police Station with a solicitor.

He was arrested and is currently assisting with inquiries.
