Updated Cross Border Travel Direction 20 August 2021, South Australia

The Emergency Management (Cross Border Travel - Associated Direction No 42) (COVID-19) Direction 2021 has been revoked and replaced by the Emergency Management (Cross Border Travel - Associated Direction No 43) (COVID-19) Direction 2021. This Direction came into effect at 9:30am on Friday 20 August 2021.

Key changes include:

Effective as of 9:30am on Friday 20 August 2021:

Queensland

Travellers who have been in Greater Brisbane within the 14 days prior to arrival are permitted to South Australia but will be subject to Level 3 requirements:

  • COVID-19 test on day 1, 5, and 13
  • Quarantine until a negative COVID-19 test result
  • Must not enter or remain in a high risk setting in South Australia for a period of 14 days after their arrival unless the person is permitted to enter in accordance with clause 9 of Cross Border Travel - General COVID-19 Direction 2021.
  • No entry to COVID Management Plan events or an event at which more than 1000 people are present for a period of 14 days after their arrival in South Australia.

Travellers from all other areas in Queensland can enter South Australia without requirements but must complete the Cross Border Travel Registration prior to travel.

Greater Brisbanemeans the following local government areas in Queensland: City of Brisbane, Moreton Bay Regional Council, Sunshine Coast Regional Council, Noosa Shire Council, City of Gold Coast, Logan City, City of Ipswich, Redland City, Lockyer Valley Regional Council, Scenic Rim Regional Council and Somerset Regional Council.

Northern Territory

Travellers who have been in the Katherine Local Government Area in the past 14 days (but not before 15 August 2021) are subject to Level 3 requirements:

  • COVID-19 test on day 1, 5, and 13
  • Quarantine until a negative COVID-19 test result
  • Must not enter or remain in a high risk setting in South Australia for a period of 14 days after their arrival unless the person is permitted to enter in accordance with clause 9 of Cross Border Travel - General COVID-19 Direction 2021.
  • No entry to COVID Management Plan events or an event at which more than 1000 people are present for a period of 14 days after their arrival in South Australia.

Travellers from all other areas in the Northern Territory, can enter South Australia without requirements but must complete the Cross Border Travel Registration prior to travel.

Passing through New South Wales

Travellers (apart from travellers from the ACT and Victoria) who have transited through New South Wales via car are subject to Level 4 requirements:

  • COVID-19 test on day 1, 5, and 13
  • Must self-quarantine for 14 days
  • A person must wear a face mask (covering mouth and nose) at any time that they come into contact with the public.

Permitted purpose to travel for cross-border community members and carers

A person may travel with a carer into South Australia to receive emergency medical care if they are ordinarily a resident in the NSW or Victorian cross border corridor. Unless the person is conveyed by emergency services they must produce evidence of the medical condition for which they are travelling for treatment.

A person must not have (during the period of 14 days before entering South Australia) been in a restricted zone outside of the NSW or Victorian cross border corridor or been associating (in person) with persons from a restricted zone outside the relevant cross border corridors.

Apart from as a carer, NSW cross border community members are prohibited from entering South Australia.

Medical Care means - emergency medical care,surgery, procedures and medical and allied health consultations.
