***UPDATE***Man found suffering head injury in Belfield

Fresh information has come to light as detectives continue their inquiries into how a man suffered head injuries in Belfield overnight. , NSW Police say

Shortly before midnight yesterday, police were called to Punchbowl Road after a 51-year-old man was found lying in the middle of the road.

The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to St George Hospital where he is in a stable condition.

After speaking with the man detectives now believe the man may have been assaulted and robbed as he pulled into an industrial unit complex on Punchbowl Road.

It’s believed the man got out of his car when numerous vehicles were blocking his entrance. As he pulled out his mobile phone he was struck from behind then punched in the face.

It’s not known exactly how many people were involved in the assault.

Detectives from Flemington Local Area Command continue with their investigations.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stopers.
