Beachgoers and visitors to Flynns Beach can now enjoy upgraded public amenities, with works to improve the popular beachfront facility now complete.
The upgrade has delivered renewed bathroom facilities to provide a more modern, functional and welcoming amenity for residents and visitors using one of Port Macquarie's most popular beaches.
The project was supported by $117,118 in funding from the NSW Government's ClubGRANTS Category 3 Infrastructure Grants Program, $10,000 from the Community Building Partnership and a $182,000 contribution from Port Macquarie Hastings Council.
The Flynns Beach amenities upgrade saw ageing infrastructure replaced with modern, accessible and water-efficient facilities to improve hygiene and comfort. It includes new fixtures and fittings, improved building finishes and upgraded pedestrian connections.
A key feature of the upgrades were the significant improvements to accessibility, including the provision of compliant accessible amenities and improved pathway access ensuring the facility is welcoming, safe and accessible for people of all ages and abilities.
Port Macquarie Hastings Mayor Adam Roberts said the completion of the project was another example of Council investing in the everyday facilities that contribute to the experience of residents and visitors across the region.
"Flynns Beach is an incredibly popular part of our coastline, and these amenities are used by local families, swimmers, surfers and visitors all year round," Mayor Roberts said.
"This upgrade is about making sure the facilities are modern, functional and meet the expectations of the community.
"While projects like this may not always attract the same attention as our major infrastructure projects, they make a very real difference to people's lives. I'm pleased to see these works complete and the upgraded amenities open and ready for the community to enjoy."
Member for Port Macquarie Rob Dwyer welcomed the completion of the upgrade and said investment in community infrastructure helped ensure popular public spaces continued to meet the needs of a growing region.
"Investing in practical community infrastructure like this helps make our public spaces more accessible, welcoming and enjoyable, and I'm delighted to see these upgraded facilities now available for the community."
The completion of the amenities upgrade strengthens the facilities available at Flynns Beach and supports Council's ongoing investment in quality public spaces and recreational infrastructure across the region.
