On November 27 and 28, Deputy Administrator Isobel Coleman traveled to Guatemala and El Salvador with National Security Advisor to the Vice President Dr. Philip Gordon and a high-level U.S. delegation. While in Guatemala, they reiterated the U.S. government's strong support for a peaceful democratic transition, as well as respect for the rule of law. In El Salvador, the delegation underscored the importance of good governance, human rights, and legal pathways for migration to advance economic opportunity and security.
Deputy Administrator Coleman reaffirmed the U.S. government's commitment to the people of northern Central America during engagements in both countries with civil society, the private sector, and government officials. In this regard, she highlighted work under the United States' Root Causes Strategy to build communities where all citizens can advance economically; live safely and in dignity; have confidence in their governments; and participate in the democratic process. This included showcasing the positive impact of investments made by private sector partners under Central America Forward, especially in the areas of improving good governance, creating good jobs, reducing violence, and empowering women.
