Today, the Cobar community and regional NSW have lost an icon with the passing of Councilor Lilliane Brady OAM.
For 40 years Lilliane was a stalwart and vocal advocate for her local community and the broader western NSW region, who fiercely fought for what she believed in.
While small in stature, she has been a giant of local government for the last four decades. Her unrivalled passion for the people of Cobar was critical in seeing the advancement of the community through local projects and funding.
After serving 20 years as Mayor of Cobar Shire Council, Lilliane is NSW's longest serving female Mayor, and leaves behind an enduring legacy, the likes of which we will never see again.
Deputy Premier John Barilaro said he has lost not only one of his favourite Mayors but truly, a genuine friend.
"I've worked with Lilliane for a number of years, fighting for Cobar and the bush. I was in awe of her passion and her fight, her ability to always say it how it was, but mostly her stories."
Minister for Agriculture and Minister for Western NSW Adam Marshall shared his deepest sympathy.
"There was no one else like Lilliane; she pulled no punches when she was fighting to see her beloved community flourish. I have been incredibly blessed to have worked closely with her during my time in both local and state government," Mr Marshall said.
