Nick Bolkus made an enormous contribution to the Labor Party, his state of South Australia and to Australia.
His long career in Parliament and as a Minister under Bob Hawke and Paul Keating saw him play an important role during a transformational period for our country.
For many years, Nick was one of the most influential leaders of the Labor Party in South Australia who was widely respected and forged deep friendships across the factional spectrum.
At a more personal level, Nick was a generous and thoughtful mentor to younger members of the Labor Party, including to me.
His wise leadership and counsel will be deeply missed.
My deepest condolences go to his loving family and his wide network of friends.
