Major infrastructure upgrades at Valley Lake/Ketla Malpi have been completed, improving access and safety for residents and visitors using the popular recreation and tourism precinct.
The project included upgrades to Davison Drive between Bay Road and Elliott Drive and renewal of the retaining wall at the boat ramp car park.
The road upgrades have improved driving conditions along a key access route through the precinct, while the retaining wall renewal replaces ageing infrastructure and supports the ongoing use of the boat ramp facilities.
"The Valley Lake/Ketla Malpi is one of the region's most popular destinations and these upgrades will improve access and safety for everyone who visits the precinct," City of Mount Gambier General Manager City Infrastructure Barbara Cernovskis said.
"Maintaining and improving key infrastructure helps ensure the area remains accessible, functional and enjoyable for residents and visitors."
The works form part of Council's ongoing investment in the Valley Lake/Ketla Malpi precinct, which attracts visitors throughout the year for recreation, nature-based experiences and tourism activities.
The boat ramp car park retaining wall renewal improves the long-term durability of the facility and supports continued use of the area.
"These upgrades address important infrastructure needs while enhancing the overall visitor experience," Ms Cernovskis said.
"Council is committed to maintaining infrastructure that supports community use of the precinct and helps protect these assets for the future."
Planning is underway for the next stage of Davison Drive upgrades between Elliott Drive and Haig Drive, with works scheduled for delivery during the 2026/2027 financial year.
The project represents another step in Council's long term approach to maintaining and improving infrastructure within the Valley Lake/Ketla Malpi precinct.
