Vessel fire in Gosford

A vessel has caught fire and sank south of Gosford today, NSW Police say.

About 6pm (Saturday 30 December 2017), emergency services responded to reports of a vessel on fire off Yattalunga, south of Gosford.

A 67-year-old man and a 75-year-old woman were on board at the time and evacuated to their tender boat when they were unable to extinguish the fire.

Attempts were made to extinguish the fire by a vessel from the Marine Area Command and NSW Fire & Rescue, but were unsuccessful.

About 7.45pm, the vessel split in two and sank approximately 500m west of the shore.

Buffers were put in place around the sunken vessel to minimise contamination.

Initial investigations suggest the fire is not suspicious and no-one was injured during the incident.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
