Victoria Names Squad For Sheffield Shield Clash Against New South Wales

Victoria has confirmed its 13-player squad for Round 2 of the 2025/26 Sheffield Shield season, with the team set to face New South Wales at the CitiPower Centre from Wednesday 15 October.

Victoria will enter the contest full of confidence after a strong opening-round victory over South Australia in Adelaide. In just his second Shield match, Oliver Peake guided his side home with crucial second innings runs, showcasing his growing maturity at First-Class level.

Captain Will Sutherland returns to lead the team after completing Australia A duties in India, joined by fellow squad members Harry Dixon and Todd Murphy.

The match will also see the two states compete for the Hodge-Matthews Trophy, awarded on the aggregate of the two Sheffield Shield fixtures and one One-Day Cup meeting between Victoria and New South Wales. Victoria currently holds the trophy following last season's series win.

Victorian Men's Head Coach Chris Rogers said the group was looking forward to testing itself against another in-form opponent.

"It was really pleasing to start the season the way we did in Adelaide. The fight our players showed in the second innings – especially Oliver Peake and Fergus O'Neill – was exactly the sort of resilience we've been working towards," Rogers said.

"To welcome back Will, Harry and Todd from Australia A duty gives us great balance and depth. NSW are always a tough side, so we know we'll have to be at our best again."

Victoria faces New South Wales in Round 2 of the Sheffield Shield, starting 10:30 am (ADST) on Wednesday 15 October at the CitiPower Centre. Live coverage will be available on cricket.com.au and Kayo Sports.
