Victorian Chamber applauds return of 75 per cent of office workers

Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry

The Victorian Chamber applauds Premier Daniel Andrews' announcement today that 75 per cent of public and private sector office workers can return to their workplaces from Monday.

The welcome news comes as City of Melbourne pedestrian data shows foot traffic in Melbourne's CBD is at a 10-month high and traffic levels are at 90 per cent capacity.

Every Victorian business and individual have a responsibility to continue to do everything we can to maintain a COVIDSafe environment so that Victoria can continue this path to recovery.

To be attributed to Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chief Executive Paul Guerra:

"The Victorian Chamber welcomes today's announcement that 75 per cent of public and private sector office workers can return from Monday; something we have been actively pushing for since late last year.

"With 27 consecutive days of no COVID-19 community transition, this is the right move and one that our Victorian Chamber members will welcome, particularly our CBD retail, hospitality and entertainment venues. Local metropolitan and regional shopping strips and hubs will also benefit from an increase in foot traffic.

"It's fundamental to every workplace across the state and we can now move ahead with confidence to bring more workers back and get that collaboration and in person engagement humming.

"There will be logistical issues associated with getting people back to their desks and incorporating a hybrid working model in most cases, and the Victorian Chamber is on hand to help our members work their way through that.

"One message I have for everyone heading back to their desks from this week: please make a special effort to support the many businesses near your workplace if you can. Buy a coffee, grab some lunch, duck out on a shopping trip on your break. Every little bit will help our valued businesses get back on their feet and restore Victoria's reputation as the economic powerhouse of the country."
