Quarterly ABS figures show Melbourne households and businesses have been smashed hard by surging electricity and gas prices.
The surge in electricity prices in Melbourne was 3.8 per cent over just one quarter to the end of September 2025.
The surge in gas and other household fuels for Melbourne was 8 per cent in the September quarter to the 30th September 2025.
These are huge hits on the budgets of Melbourne and Victoria's households.
These hits will burn many small business customers as electricity and gas prices surge.
The huge increases across one quarter are unusual in their size and despite the volatility which may occur, few Melbournians will take comfort from such big increases in gas and electricity prices.
Victorian families know they are paying more whatever convoluted and tortured argument the Allan Labor Government seeks to put and the ABS figures this quarter back up the views of regular families.
Shadow Minister for Energy and Resources David Davis said: "Jacinta Allan and Labor have smashed family budgets with high energy charges.
"Whatever incentives and handbacks they deign to give consumers are gobbled up by higher prices and everyone of these 'incentives' and 'handbacks' is paid for by energy consumers and/or taxpayers.
"The sad fact is under Labor families are paying more and the ABS figures prove it.
"Whatever way you slice it and dice and whatever 'incentives' and 'handbacks' Labor has given the fact is families are paying more under Labor when it's all added up."
