Victorian Premier Issues Statement 11 July

VIC Premier

Derryn Hinch lived a life made for the front page.

For decades, his voice boomed through radios and TVs into our cars and homes.

The thing about Derryn was that you never had to wonder what he thought. He told you straight.

He never shied from a fight and sometimes seemed to relish one. But his convictions were always real.

He cared deeply about people who had been let down. He believed victims should be heard, and justice should be fought for.

And when he believed something was right, he gave it everything.

That took him from 3AW to the Senate, where he stood up for victims of child sexual abuse, and pushed for stronger protections in the law.

He leaves behind real change for victims and survivors who for too long went unheard.

To Lynda, his family, friends, colleagues, and loyal listeners, our thoughts are with you.

Derryn recently said he wanted only two words on his headstone.

"He tried."

He succeeded.
