Victorian Woman Charged in Gold Coast Airport Breach

A Victorian woman is scheduled to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today (24 January, 2026), charged with allegedly breaching a secure restricted area at Gold Coast Airport.

The AFP responded to a call for assistance at the airport yesterday (23 January, 2026) after the woman, 25, allegedly attempted to enter a restricted airside area at a boarding gate, without a boarding pass.

Airline staff stopped the Mount Waverley woman from entering the restricted area, before the she then allegedly stole food from a nearby store and left the scene.

The AFP located the woman inside the terminal where she was arrested and later charged with:

  • One count of entering an airside area or airside security zone of a security-controlled airport without permission, contrary to subsection 3.17(2) of the Aviation Transport Security Regulations 2005 (Cth). This offence carries a maximum penalty of $15,650; and
  • One count of unauthorised dealing with shop goods, contrary to section five of the Regulatory Offences Act 1985 (Qld). This offence carries a maximum penalty of $1980.

AFP Detective Superintendent Scott Moller said Gold Coast Airport's secure areas were clearly marked and closely monitored.

"Airside restrictions exist to ensure the safety and security of the travelling public and workers," Det Supt Moller said.

"If you choose to ignore the warnings and enter an airside security zone without permission, you will potentially face prosecution."
