Volunteer Spotlight - Tufail Taj - East Gippsland

As National Volunteer Week (18 - 24 May) approaches, East Gippsland Shire Council is celebrating the people who generously give their time to support others and strengthen the community.

Among them is Council staff member Tufail Taj, below, who volunteers with three organisations - the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) L2P Program as a learner driver mentor, the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme through Elder Rights Australia, and CFA Lakes Entrance.

Tufail said volunteering was about giving back to the community and sharing skills and experience to help others. "I enjoy transferring my skills to others and knowing someone else can benefit from them. It feels good to give back to the community," he said.

National Volunteer Week is also an opportunity to recognise local volunteers through the East Gippsland Volunteer Honour Roll. Community members are encouraged to nominate someone making a difference at eastgippsland.vic.gov.au/community/volunteers.
