Wanted Glen Innes man located at Windsor

Police have located and charged a man who allegedly escaped from a minimum-security correctional facility in Glen Innes last year.

Officers from New England Police District commenced an investigation after the man was reported missing from the facility on Gwydir Highway about 12pm on Saturday 23 May 2020.

Following extensive inquiries, officers attached to Hawksbury Police Area Command, assisted by the Dog Unit, attended a home on New Street, Windsor about 5am yesterday (Monday 11 January 2021), where they arrested the 44-year-old man who was allegedly attempting to flee out the back of the house.

The man was arrested and taken to Windsor Police Station where two outstanding warrants were executed for inmate escape/attempt to escape from lawful custody and steal motor vehicle.

He was refused bail and appeared in Penrith Local Court yesterday (Monday 11 January 2021).
