Wanted man arrested after police vehicle rammed during pursuit at Albury

A man wanted on outstanding warrants has been arrested after a police vehicle was rammed during a pursuit in the state's south overnight.

About 11.30pm (Wednesday 28 April 2021), Victoria and NSW Police were conducting a cross-border operation, when officers attached to Murray River Police District observed a white Mitsubishi Magna sedan in the Albury area allegedly travelling above the speed limit.

PolAir monitored the vehicle as it travelled across the border to Shepperton, Victoria, before it travelled back to Wodonga.

About 1.30am today (Thursday 29 April 2021), officers from Murray River Police District police attempted to arrest the driver while he was in the stationary Mitsubishi on Wantigong Street, North Albury,

When the vehicle drove away a pursuit was initiated which continued into Lavington.

During the pursuit, an unmarked police vehicle was rammed causing front end damage.

The driver ran from the vehicle and police commenced a foot pursuit.

The 20-year-old man was arrested a short time later on Griffith Road and taken to Albury Base Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in an unrelated incident. He also underwent mandatory testing.

Inquires continue and police urge anyone who may have seen the Mitsubishi Magna yesterday to come forward.
