Warning to drivers towing trailers in high winds, TAS

On the 30th of October 2016 at about 5pm police attended a traffic crash where a caravan had been flipped onto its side on the Bridgewater Bridge due to the severe wind that was occurring at the time, Tasmania Police say.

There were traffic delays caused as police closed the road due to the caravan beginning to tear apart in the windy conditions.

The caravan was dragged from the bridge after the conditions abated slightly to minimise the risk to the public. The Bridgewater Bridge was closed from traffic for one hour due to the crash.

Tasmania Police would like to advise that this is a timely reminder that drivers towing trailers should assess the risk prior to entering wind prone areas such as the Bridgewater Bridge in windy conditions.
