Residents who live in one of the 34 Local Government Areas (LGAs) declared natural disaster areas will be able to dispose of:

  • all building materials
  • furniture
  • any other flood generated waste on both private and public land.

The list of exempt LGAs will be updated as more natural disaster areas are declared.

Residents can check with their local council for local facilities details, including any specific requirements to dispose of flood-damaged waste.

Environment Minister Matt Kean said as floodwaters in some parts of the state start to recede, residents will face a hard and painful clean-up process.

"We have waived the waste levy in flood-affected areas to help move the mess quickly and safely," Mr Kean said.
