Waste services over Christmas and New Year season

Did you know that waste volumes increase by around 30% over the Christmas and New Year holiday period?

During this busy time Ballina Shire Council's waste trucks are kept very busy collecting bins as normal while also dealing with increased volumes of waste. This requires drivers to unload more frequently before resuming collection routes.

"There are no changes to bin collection days over the Christmas period, even if bin collection falls on a public holiday," explained Council's Manager of Resource Recovery, Lloyd Isaacson.

"However, because it is a very busy time, bins may be collected a little later in the day. We are asking residents to please wait until 3pm on their usual collection day before calling Council as it's likely the driver is on their way."

The Waste Management Centre and Salvage Shed will close on the following dates:

  • Saturday 25 December to Tuesday 28 December 2021
  • Saturday 1 January 2022
  • Monday 3 January 2022

"We will be open as usual from 8am to 4pm on the days between Christmas and New Year's from 29 December to 31 December," said Mr Isaacson.

"Due to the high volume of waste generated during the holidays, and as we are closed on the Christmas Day and Boxing Day public holidays, residents should expect delays at the Waste Management Centre on 29 December.

"We really appreciate the community's patience and understanding during this time. If your visit is not urgent we urge residents to delay it until the New Year."
