Weekend wrap - Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police managed energetic crowds at two major events in Alice Springs at the weekend.

Senior Sergeant Shaun Furniss said Police provided a visible presence at the 2018 Red Centre NATS and the Central Australian Football League Grand Final on Saturday and the Community Country League and Cup on Sunday, Northern Territory Police say.

"It was very busy weekend for us, but we got through it ok and generally everyone was well behaved," said Snr Sgt Furniss

"We were really impressed with the behaviour within the Red Centre NATS event venues, however there will always be the minority who don’t behave and so we did have to escort some individuals from event premises."

Hundreds of supporters came from surrounding communities for the 2018 Central Australia Aboriginal Congress Community Country League and Cup.

"As with any sporting grand final emotions were high and we did see a passionate crowd of supporters at Sunday’s match.

"Police were there to ensure the crowd, the teams and supporters maintained good behaviour post-match," said Snr Sgt Furniss

"As a result of the football finals, we have seen an increase in visitor numbers. Police are working with other government agencies and stakeholders to assist visitors return to country."
