Weiss Independent Review Submission Period Extended

Submissions in relation to the independent review about former police officer Paul Reynolds will now close on 31 December 2023.

Ms Regina Weiss, a highly regarded barrister with many years of experience leading independent reviews, said that the submission period for witnesses or members of the public would be extended to 31 December to allow as many people as possible to make submissions.

"There has been a significant uptake since the call for submissions opened on 12 October, covering a time period of more than 30 years," Ms Weiss said.

"People with information including those who have experienced or observed grooming and/or sexual abuse by Paul Reynolds or other Tasmania Police personnel are encouraged to continue coming forward.

"I would also like to thank those who have already participated to date for their courage and candour in doing so. Anyone who wishes to be heard, will be heard."

Ms Weiss said that private sessions with participants commenced in October and would continue throughout December and into the new year.

"An interim report on the progress of the Review will be submitted to the Commissioner at the end of January 2024," Ms Weiss said.

Anyone who wishes to make a written submission or register interest in a private session should email [email protected].
