Western Ring Road near miss

Police are searching for the driver of a stolen yellow car which nearly struck a police member on the Western Ring Road last week, Victoria Police say.

Police were out on foot patrolling for drivers unlawfully using the emergency lane when they noticed a Toyota Yarris driving between Jones Creek and St Albans Road, Cairnlea, about 5.15pm on 28 October.

A police member approached the car on foot to speak to the driver.

The car slowed down momentarily, but then started to drive off.

The officer directed the driver to pull over but the car then sped off and clipped the elbow of a police officer.

The car then travelled west along Furlong Road, and was later observed travelling against traffic on St Albans Road.

Police have released an image of the car, registration 1DR 5BN, in the hope someone may know the car or driver’s whereabouts.

Any witnesses or anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
