Police and emergency services are currently on the scene in Wheelers hill where a car has crashed into a tree, Victoria Police say.
It is believed the silver hatchback struck a tree as it travelled inbound on Ferntree Gully Road about 2.50pm.
The male driver of the car has died at the scene.
A female passenger will be taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police will investigate to determine the cause of the crash.
