Where to Rosé all day

Rosé season is upon us, and we're dreaming of lingering afternoons spent drinking pink at our favourite cellar doors. Rosé the day away with our guide to where to find the best Rosé in South Australia.

1. Down the Rabbit Hole, Fleurieu Peninsula

See the world through rosé-coloured glasses and go Down The Rabbit Hole on the Fleurieu Peninsula. With a vintage double decker bus converted into a unique tasting room, Mediterranean-style cellar door, sprawling lawns, a tree swing, bordering vineyards and blossom-tinged orchards to match your Rosé, Down The Rabbit Hole is one of the most Instagrammable wineries on the Fleurieu Peninsula. The warmer Mediterranean climate of McLaren Vale offers up fruity Rosé styles and Down The Rabbit Hole's Friends and Lovers is no exception. With a pale watermelon pink colour and hints of white peach and summer berries, this Rosé was made for summer day sessions.

2. Cobbs Hill Estate, Adelaide Hills

Take time to stop and smell the Rosé surrounded by Cobbs Hill Estate's manicured gardens. The perfect destination to drink in summer, and a pale pink Rosé, Cobbs Hill Estate is nestled in the middle of a 250-acre Adelaide Hills property just 30 minutes from the city. Throw down a picnic rug under a shady tree, grab a bottle of their Mail Run Rosé and a gourmet platter and sip away the day framed by stunning gardens.

3. Kimbolton Wines, Fleurieu Peninsula

Designed by renowned architect Damian Chwalisz, kitted-out industrial shipping containers create the perfect spot to drink pink surrounded by Langhorne Creek's vineyards at Kimbolton Wines. Take a bottle of Montepulciano Rosé (think crisp, fresh and dry) to the rooftop deck and soak in views across the vines or while away the afternoon with a regionally inspired platter playing lawn games below. You can bring the kids along too, with cordial and cheese flights available during school holidays.

4. Sidewood Estate, Adelaide Hills

Kick back on a luxury day bed set among manicured gardens as your waiter brings Rosé straight to you. Hahndorf's Sidewood Estate is the perfect spot to catch up with friends over a glass (or 10) of famed Adelaide Hills cool-climate wines paired with incredible food. Book a VIP day bed, pull up a seat in the chic restaurant or snag a spot on the sun-filled deck and soak in the idyllic surrounds with a glass of sparkling Rosé. Perfect for families, you can also throw down your picnic rug, sip wine and feast on wood-fired pizzas while the kids are kept busy on the playground.

5. The Lane Vineyard, Adelaide Hills

On the outskirts of Hahndorf just 25 minutes from Adelaide, The Lane Vineyard is home to a jaw-dropping tasting room, contemporary restaurant, and a text-book perfect cool-climate Adelaide Hills Rosé. Taste some of their best wines with a personal tasting or a food-matched wine flight, or order a bottle of Rosé and stay on for lunch. Consider yourself a wine snob? Go behind the scenes of The Lane's state of the art winery for a crash course in winemaking with head wine maker Turon White. Create your own master blend, bottle it and take it home to savour later.

High on a hill lies Golding Wines, where a single-estate Rosé awaits. Made from 100% estate grown Pinot Noir and awarded 93 points in the Halliday Wine Companion 2020, the salmon-pink Rosé is crisp with classic Pinot characters of strawberries and cream. Pair it with a wood-fired pizza nestled among the Lobethal winery's award-winning gardens or pull up a seat in the rustic stone cellar door and spend an afternoon sipping Rosé.

7. K1 Wines, Fleurieu Peninsula

Sip Rosé lakeside at K1 Wines. Bordering Kuitpo Forest, the vines here grow in idyllic cool-climate conditions resulting in premium wines including a single-estate Rosé blended with 80% Durif and 20% Pinot Noir grapes. With an avenue of London Plane trees that lead to the romantic lake-house cellar door, a deck overlooking the water and surrounded by rolling vineyards, K1 is one of the most picturesque cellar doors in Australia and was named among Australia's top 10 cellar door experiences by Wine Business Magazine.

8. David Franz Wine, Barossa

Crafting small batch wines in the heart of the Barossa, David Franz is one of the region's best kept secrets. An 1860s cottage has been lovingly restored and turned into a quirky cellar door with epic views over the vineyards and a beautiful deck area to soak it all in, a glass of Rosé in hand. Snag a sun lounge and a bottle of the Red Rosé and settle in for the afternoon. The rich Barossa soils result in a deeply fruity Rosé reminiscent of ripe raspberries and toffee apple. The fruit has been hand plucked and incorporates more than 100 (yep, 100) varieties. It's that good you'll want to make sure you stock up on a few bottles of rosey-tinged sunshine for the road.

9. Dudley Wines, Kangaroo Island

On South Australia's island paradise, the summer's forecast is 99% Rosé all day. For coastal views and great wine, head for Kangaroo Island's Dudley Wines. Perched on the island's north coast just a 10 minute drive from Penneshaw, Dudley Wines is Kangaroo Island's pioneer winery. Relax for the afternoon on the deck with far-reaching views across Backstairs Passage (the section of water separating the island from the mainland) while enjoying Dudley's locally produced and award-winning wines. Crafted from specially selected Shiraz grapes with fresh flavours of red currants, peaches and summer berries, their Pink Bay Rosé was made for warm island days by the beach.

10. Ngeringa, Adelaide Hills

One of the pioneering biodynamic wineries in Australia, Ngeringa is focused on creating sustainable, ecologically minded wines. The Adelaide Hills winery sits just outside Mount Barker on a 75-hectare farm, with five hectares dedicated to vineyards. Their sustainable approach to farming and viticulture is evident as soon as you arrive with small, closely planted vines, a straw bale winery, and vineyard seamlessly entwined with the farm which is home to Scottish Highland cows, sheep and chickens, a flourishing paddock overflowing with veggies and extensive revegetation plantings. Here, you can sip wine grown, made and bottled without leaving the estate, including their crisp, savoury-leaning Rosé.
