The Minority Liberal Government’s secrecy has reached a new low, with the Treasurer’s refusal to say who sits on the Budget Committee.
The Budget Committee will play a key role in determining where the axe will fall to achieve the $450 million in cuts that embedded in the budget.
Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said the Treasurer had refused to say how the budget cuts will be achieved.
“Today in Budget Estimates the Treasurer flatly refused to say who even sits on the committee that will sign off on the cuts,” Mr Bacon said.
“In the past this information has been routinely disclosed.
“It is clear that the so-called efficiency dividend was inserted in the Budget at the 11th hour in a desperate attempt to mask the Treasurer’s incompetence.
“There is absolutely no detail about how the savings will be achieved, although the Premier has said that the Tourism marketing budget will be quarantined.
“The Treasurer has refused to acknowledge that cuts will increase to 2.25 per cent by the end of the forward estimates.
“Tasmania is headed for a $1.1 billion train wreck and we have a dishonest and incompetent Treasurer at the wheel.”
