Winners Of 2021 Resilient Australia Awards Lead Way For Disaster Resilient Communities And Country

Minister for Emergency Management and National Recovery and Resilience, the Hon Senator Bridget McKenzie congratulated the winners of the 2021 Resilient Australia Awards at the National Ceremony in Melbourne today.

Now in its 22nd year, the awards program celebrates individuals, community organisations, councils and schools who show initiative in helping to create a more disaster resilient Australia.

"The Australian Government invests heavily in helping communities be better prepared for, and more resilient to, the risks and impacts of natural hazards. The Resilient Australia Awards are an important opportunity for us to shine a light on those who are committed to minimising the loss and suffering caused by disasters in Australia," Minister McKenzie said.

"We all have a role to play in the vision of a more resilient nation, and our collective efforts will lead to much better outcomes for Australians individually and the country as a whole."

Minister McKenzie congratulated and thanked each of the seven winners across the National, School, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Local Government, Community, and Photography categories.

"There are a wide range of project and programs that have been recognised through these Awards, all play a key role in building resilience and preparing communities," Minister McKenzie said.

"Winning projects range from focusing on educating communities, to supporting mental health, to developing emergency plans and responses. All have come as a result of the hard work of these winners, and will make an important contribution to how our communities respond to and prepare for disasters.

"All of these winners inspire us to think about what we can do in our communities, and lay the foundations for us to build our own capability for resilience. "

The Resilient Australia Awards are managed by the Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience and are sponsored by the National Recovery and Resilience Agency in conjunction with the states and territories.
