Witness appeal following Melbourne CBD crash

Police are appealing for witnesses after a car crashed into a traffic light pole in Melbourne’s CBD on Christmas day, Victoria Police say.

It’s alleged the driver, a 22-year-old man, struck the pole at the intersection of Franklin and William streets about 7.50pm.

The Melbourne man has then allegedly fled from the vehicle before being arrested by police a short distance away.

He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries where he remains under police guard.

Investigators are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the vehicle, a grey 2008 Holden Astra station wagon, travelling in the area or of the actual crash to come forward.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
